However, I can't understand how the analysis of those maps led to the conclusion that the island belongs to Japan, because if analyzed correctly, it should have verified that the island is the territory of South Korea. And actually, the correct term for the island is Dokdo, not Takeshima or Liancourt Rocks. Let me tell you some evidence.
The distance between Dokdo and Oki island, the nearest island of Japan from Dokdo, is about 157 kilometers, which is approximately 68 kilometers farther than that between Korea's Ulleungdo and Dokdo. Besides, according to the Sejong chronicles, an official letter during Joseon dynasty, the distance between Ulleungdo and Dokdo is close enough to see Dokdo from the other if the weather is fine. In 1900, Dokdo was officially incorporated into Gangwon-do province through the forty-first article of Korea's imperial order. Even some documents from Japan support that Dokdo belong to South Korea's territory. Also in
Samguksagi, the oldest historical book in Korea, there is a record that Silla called Dokdo as 'Usando' after king Isabu had conquered Usanguk. Moreover in the 1500s, An Young Bok - Joseon's fisherman during the 17th century - visited Japan and returned with a paper that says "Ulleungdo and Dokdo is the territory of Joseon." This means that South Korea had known about the existence of Dokdo since a longer time ago than Japan.
