Recently, China has altered and expanded the range of the South China Sea very radically as you all might know. That alteration stretches from the beautiful coastal waters of Vietnam to the uniquely divided islands of Malaysia. Vietnam regards this as a threat so they opened up their territorial sea so that USA¡¯s or Russia¡¯s aircraft carrier may come in. Through these Chinese acts, so many people suffer from misunderstandings because that sea is recognized as a troubled area of the world even when that is evidently a part of Southeast Asia.
Also, Japan argues that Okinotorisima is their southernmost island which was Douglas reef but now it¡¯s changed to Japanese territory because they poured lots of concrete and cement on it. That argument is accepted internationally and as a result many countries experience inconvenience when they pass through that area. All these acts are generated by powerful nations for their benefit. So a number of people cannot help being exposed to an unfamiliar world which they do not understand.
Now let me introduce a very attractive island named Dokdo. The island is about 84km far from here. Historically people can¡¯t travel there easily so it has a rugged and untamed nature thanks to the rough waters surrounding it. And there are some rare species of butterflies, ladybugs and flowers in Dokdo that have been designated as natural treasures. But sadly, ¡®Gangchi¡¯ – a unique species of sea lion – died out during the Japanese rule because of overhunting. This island is proclaimed as Takeshima by Japan.
