To Whom it may concern,

Greetings,

I am Seonwon Kim, a high school student from South Korea.

I am surfing to find out typographical errors about Korean history or territory.

I found out something wrong on your website and strongly urge to correct the wrong term ¡°Sea of Japan¡°  to the right term.

I hope you would deeply tackle this issue.

This is why we should call 'East Sea' instead of 'Sea of Japan'.

'East Sea' is the sea name between Korea and Japan for a long time. It has been used in Korea for over 2,000 years. When we look at the old maps that were used in East Asian countries, the sea is written as 'East Sea'. In contrast, no maps published content which indicated any name rather than 'East Sea' up to the 18th century.

According to the International Hydrographic Organization, ¡®marking at the same time¡¯ is recommended if the parties fail to agree on a single name for the terrain they share. Therefore, I think that the sea between Korea and Japan should be described as the ¡°East Sea¡± or at least with the simultaneous use of both names; ¡°East Sea/Sea of Japan.¡±

I would like to ask you to change 'Sea of Japan' in your maps to 'East Sea' or 'East Sea/Sea of Japan'.

I appreciate your intention about Dokdo/Takashima. However, East Sea is also very important issue for us.

I look forward to hearing corrections from you.

Have a good day.

Sincerely,

Seonwon Kim
