Dear The Times,

Hello, The Times, I'm Jin-hee Lee. I'm a high school student from South Korea.
I'm sending you an email to ask for some help.
On your website (https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/japan-buys-east-china-sea-island-to-challenge-china-77lwk9jp2), there is a wrong map included - a map with wrong information.
The map on the page titles 'East Sea' as 'Sea of Japan', which is a wrong way to call that sea.

The sea between Korea and Japan should be called as 'East Sea', not 'Sea of Japan' due to historical reason and due to international standard.
First, historically for 2000 years, not only in Korean maps but also in old Japanese maps, it was called 'East Sea', not 'Sea of Japan'. The old maps of East Asia shows that this part of sea was called as 'East Sea' for a long time. However, though ¡°East Sea¡± was the name that was used for 2,000 years, due to Japanese occupation, the sea started to be called as 'Sea of Japan' due to Japanese manipulation. However, historically, 'East Sea' is the correct way.
Also, according to IHO( International Hydrographic Organization), world's seas should use standard international titles, and 'East Sea' is the title chosen by IHO. IHO recommends the name 'East Sea', instead of 'Sea of Japan'.
Thus, historically and internationally, 'East Sea' is the correct title for the sea.

So I want to ask you some help to change the title of the sea on the map as 'East Sea', instead of 'Sea of Japan'.

Jin-hee Lee.
