'Donghae' is a name that Koreans have been using for more than 2,000 years. 

This can be confirmed in various sources and old maps. 

On the other hand, the name'Sea of ​​Japan' is claimed to be the first name used in Matteo Ricci's "Konyeo Mangukjeon" in 1602. 

It is proved through various sources that it was not recognized as.

In particular, Japan presented the results of an ancient western map survey that the use of the'Sea of ​​Japan' increased in the 19th century, and argued that the name'Sea of ​​Japan' was established in the 19th century, but "Japanese Byeon Schematic Map (1809) ”, “Shinjeyeojido (新製輿地全圖, 1844)” and many other maps made in Japan at that time marked the East Sea as “Chosun Sea”. 

It shows that it was not established even in Japan. 

Therefore, it can be seen that ‘Donghae’ has been the territory of Korea from a long time ago.

When I looked online for examples of mislabeling ‘Donghae’, I found out that more often than I thought, it was incorrectly indicated as ‘Japanese sea’ rather than ‘Donghae’.
