Dear Amanda Macias,

Hello, I am Hyunseo Lee at CheongShim International Academy in Korea. I found some errors about the naming of the East Sea on your article. The title was "North Korea fires unidentified projectiles into Sea of Japan, U.S. allies say" and It was published Mar 24 2021. Please read my e-mail at the end, then hope you can understand our opinion why we insist on using the word, East Sea not only use Sea of Japan.

The East Sea adjacent to the four countries, especially South Korea, North Korea, Japan, Russia's territorial waters and consists of exclusive economic zones (EEZ). This means that many state share of the ¡®jurisdiction¡¯ or ¡®sovereign right¡¯ in the East sea area. Geographical names for landforms shared by more than one country are generally determined through consultation between the countries concerned, and if the name of the landform is not agreed, the names used by each country are included. The general principles of mapping are also identified in the resolutions of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) and the United Nations Conference on Standardization of Geographical Names (UNCSGN).

¡®East Sea¡¯ has been used for more than 2,000 years, and 75 million people now first name being used, first phrase of the national anthem has enough on important for us. Nevertheless unlike Japan we didn't insist only use East Sea, and we suggested that every countries should use both name East Sea and Sea of Japan. If you agree to our situation, please write the name East Sea on your journal. Thanks for your reading & Hope to receive any yr opinion.
