Hello. We are Jeohyeon high school students Jimin Gang, Mihyeon Ryu, Yunjeong Sim, Jiin Lee, Hyemin Song working as <Dokdo reporters club> members.

Not long ago, we read an article written by Mr. Tim Kelly and discovered that the name ¡®Sea of Japan¡¯ was marked alone in this article.

Actually, ¡®East Sea¡¯ or ¡®East Sea/Sea of Japan¡¯ is a more appropriate expression.

Considering the historical legitimacy of the name ¡®East Sea¡¯, topographical characteristics of the ¡®East Sea¡¯ waters, and the international norms on geographical naming (it¡¯s not right to name an ocean or a land after a particular country, like ¡®Sea of Japan¡¯) etc., it is necessary to use both 'East Sea' of Korea and 'Sea of Japan' of Japan together.

In fact, ¡®East Sea¡¯ is the appellation which has been used since 700 years before the appearance of the nation named ¡®Japan¡¯.

We thought that people who don't know much about the ¡®East sea¡¯ may misconceive the area as an ocean solely owned by Japan if the ¡®Sea of Japan¡¯ is marked alone in this article, which is internationally reported.

So we thought that it is necessary to modify the expression and to let more people know the fact.

Thank you.
