To whom it may concern

Hello. This is Jinhwan Yoon from South Korea.
While surfing the Internet, I noticed that you had been using the map that uses the term 'mer du Japon' to describe the body of water between South Korea and Japan. Anyone who visits your website might think that this body of water is the territory of Japan.
However, it has never been the territory of Japan and it is reasonable to write side-by-side the names that both countries use, including 'East Sea.'

º»·Ð
The reason is as follows. The east sea is adjacent to four countries, including South Korea, Russia, North Korea, and Japan. In particular, it consists of territorial waters of several countries and the exclusive economic zone(EEZ). According to international rules, names of the land or sea shared by two or more countries should be determines through consultation between the countries concerned. If not, it is reasonable to write side-by-side the names that those countries use. These general principals are also mentioned by international hydrographic organization(IHO) and by U.N. conference of standardization of geographical names(UNCSGN).
Also, the term 'East Sea' has been used for more than 2000 years, and Samguksagi(ß²ÏÐÞÈÑÀ), King Dongmyeong's episode, Eight State Map(ø¢Ô³õÅÓñ) as well as a variety of historical maps and records support this fact. In contrast, the term 'Sea of Japan' or 'Mer du Japon' was first used in great universal geographic map(ÍÞæ¨Ø¿ÏÐîïÓñ) by Matteo Ricci in 1602. Various historical records prove that even Japanese had not recognized East Sea as Sea of Japan since then.

I hope that you would replace the map you had been using with the map that mentions the term 'East Sea.'
It is highly important to deliver the right information of the history between Korea and Japan to future generations.

Please text me back if you have any questions or have problem finding the correct map.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely
Jinhwan Yoon
