But the correct name for the island is 'Dokdo' and the reason for it is as follows.

One of the reasons why Japan desire Dokdo for its territory is the resources under the island. For example, a large amount of methane hydrate, also known as the blazing ice, is buried under the sea near Dokdo. When used as energy resources, it discharges relatively less carbon dioxide compared to coal. Thus, methane hydrate is taking the center stage of future eco-friendly resource from all parts of the world.But I want to make is clear that Dokdo has never been the territory of Japan. This is obvious fact by any means, either historically or geographically. The distance between the Oki island, the nearest island of Japan from Dokdo, is about 157 kilometers, which is approximately 68km farther than Korea's Ulleungdo. The Sejong chronicles, the official letter during Joseon dynasty, also mentions that the distance between Dokdo and Ulleungdo is close enough to see Dokdo from the other if the weather is fine. Even document from Japan support that Dokdo belongs to Korea. In the Japan's Justice in 1946, the Allied Supreme Commander's Memorandum, it excluded Dokdo from their territory, and the Allied Supreme Commander's Memorandum issued in June, 1946, also mentioned that Japanese ships and Japanese citizens are not allowed to assess Dokdo within 12 nautical miles.
